Russel Lowell Johansen,

95, Minot, ND, formerly of

Ryder, ND, passed away

Saturday, June 13, 2020,

at Souris Valley Care

Center, Velva, ND.

Russel was born August

18, 1924, the son of Willi-

am and Lena (Allen)

Johansen, on the family

farm in Ryder Township,

Ward County, ND. Russel

was raised and educated

in Ryder, graduating from

Ryder High School in

1942.

Russel enlisted in the

United States Merchant

Marines on October 17,

1945. He proudly served

his country during World

War II. He was honorably

discharged on March 17,

1947. He served on ships

all over the world.

Russel married Jeanette

Skogen on December 27,

1945 at Bethany Lutheran

Church, Minot, ND. They

made their home in Ryder

Township, Ward County,

near Ryder, ND. They

lived on the farm for 52

years, before moving into

Minot in 1999. They had a

small grain and dairy farm

along with raising hogs

and beef cattle.

Jeanette passed away

March 1, 2019.

Russel was a member of

Calvary Presbyterian

Church, Ryder, serving on

the elder board there. He

served on the Ryder and

North Shore School

Boards for 23 years, and

the Ryder and Minot Har-

vest States Elevator

Boards, and the Ryder

Creamery board.

Russel was an avid

reader, but his whole life

was farming. He lived and

breathed farming, even

when he was not living on

the farm, he was con-

cerned about how the

crops were doing and how

much rain the farmers got.

He helped with the har-

vest, driving a combine,

well into his 80’s.

(Arthur) Dykxhoorn,

Travis (Carissa) Sorenson

and Marcella (Cody)

11:00 am at Cornerstone

Presbyterian Church in

Minot.

A Public Graveside Ser-

vice will be held on Fri-

day, June 26, 2020, at 1:30

pm at Rosehill Cemetery,

Ryder, ND. Due to the

Coronavirus Pandemic,

please observe social dis-

tancing.

Visitation: A private

family viewing will take

place at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home, Minot.

Memorials: are pre-

ferred to Rosehill

Cemetery, Ryder, Calvary

Church, Ryder, or the

donor’s choice.
