Twilla Peterson

Twilla Schmidt Peter-

son, age 82, of Minot

peacefully passed away

on February 19th, 2020 at

Trinity Hospital, Minot,

surrounded by her loving

family.

Twilla Angella Peterson

was born on May 3, 1937,

in Palmer, Iowa to Tho-

mas and Grace Roland

Bieber. She was raised

and educated in Jasper,

MN and graduated from

Jasper High School in

1955.

After graduation, she at-

tended Bethany Lutheran

College in Mankato, gra-

duating in 1957. She

then attended The

University of Minnesota,

Mankato, graduating in

1959 and was Delta Kappa

Gamma. Following gra-

duation, she attended

UCLA, and San Fernando

Valley State in CA.

She taught elementary

school at Our Savior’s

First Lutheran School in

Granada Hills, California,

Ben Franklin Elementary

School in Grand Forks as

well as Longfellow and

Bel Air Elementary

schools in Minot before

retiring from teaching.

Twilla married Russell

Keith Schmidt on August

14, 1965, in Jasper, MN

and they moved to Minot,

ND. They had two sons,

Channing and Chadwyn

Schmidt.

She later married Dr.

Myron Peterson on Au-

gust 30, 1977 in Minot

and had a son, Jonathon

Peterson. They later di-

vorced.

Twilla was a longtime

member of St. Mark’s

Lutheran Church and

held the offices of

Children’s Choir Director,

Sunday School Teacher,

Secretary of Voters and

Council, and was active in

the St. Mark’s Choir, in

her circle, and as a soloist.

She was in the Minot

Chamber Chorale. She

was a longtime facilitator

of Beginning Experience,

an active member of the

local chapter of P.E.O

International, and also

volunteered with the

Lord’s Cupboard Food

Pantry in Minot.

She was an amazing

mother, grandmother, sis-

ter, aunt, sister-in-law and

friend to many. Twilla

was a stellar card player

of canasta and whist,

made a favorite special

brunch “dish”, popcorn

balls, nuts & bolt mix and

sweet soup for her family.

She loved going to movies

with friends and family.

She loved art, music and

the theater and was very

proud of her family, her

Norwegian heritage, and

strong Christian faith.

Twilla is survived by

sons, Channing Schmidt

(Molly), Chadwyn

Schmidt (Rachel) and

Jonathon Peterson (Jettie),

grandchildren Zoe, Chan-

ning, Will, Brooks, Sadie

and Russell Schmidt as

well as many in-laws,

nieces, nephews, cousins

and close friends. She is

also survived by brother,

Duane Bieber and

step-children including,

Patricia (Patrick) Earley

and Steven Peterson. She

is preceded in death by

her father and mother,

Thomas and Grace Bieber,

husband Russell Schmidt

and brother, Thomas

Bieber.

A visitation will be

held on Thursday, Febru-

ary 27 from 5-7 at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home, Minot.

Her funeral service will

be Friday, February 28 at

11 am at St. Mark’s Luth-

eran Church, Minot.

There will be a Christian

burial at Rosehill Memori-al Park, Minot.
