Rose Marie Hanson was
born October 4th, 1934,
the daughter of Elzor and
Frances (Siemers) Matte.
She was born and raised
on the family farm in
Minnesota Township,
Burke County.
She was a waitress at
the Bowbells City Cafe
and worked at the Peter-
son Grocery Store until
meeting the love of her
life, La Vern. On January
3, 1954 she was united in
marriage to LaVern James
Hanson at the Kenmare
Methodist Church. They
made their home and liv-
ing on the family farm as
the 3rd generation, retir-
ing from farming in 1999,
but continued living on
the farm until 2009 when
LaVern passed away.
Together they had two
sons, Duane and Dean,
who were her pride and
joy along with her
grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
She was a member of
the United Methodist
Church of Bowbells, the
Order of the Eastern Star
and was mother advisor
for Rainbow for Girls. She
was a square dance teach-
er for 12 years.
Rose enjoyed spending
time with her family. She
loved her time spent at
Mouse River Park. She
had a love of flowers, gar-
dening, and making sure
her yard was immaculate.
She could play the organ
by ear, and even in her fi-
nal days was worried
about when she could
play her organ. Dancing
was one of her favorite
things to do. She had a
love of people and was al-
ways willing to help when
needed. You could usual-
ly find her in the kitchen
making sure everyone was
fed, or by LaVern’s side
helping him. She looked
forward to the Hostfest
every year. She was a lov-
ing wife, mother and
grandmother and will be
missed by all that knew
her.
