Myron Dammen

Myron T. Dammen, 90,
longtime Minot resident,
died Wednesday, January
22, 2020 in a Minot Hos-
pital.
Myron was born Janu-
ary 25, 1929 in Edmore,
ND, the son of Clarence
and Oline (Sorenson)
Dammen. He spent his
youth on the family farm
near Fairdale and was
educated in the communi-ties of Fairdale and Ed-
more and later earned his
GED from Page High
School.
Myron was drafted into
the U.S. Army in 1951. He
served his country honor-
ably and was discharged
in 1953. Following his
discharge, he returned to
North Dakota and married
Joann Sorbo and contin-
ued his education, gra-
duating from Minot State
Teachers College with a
degree in Music Educa-
tion.
Myron and Joann had
four children, and they
spent the next seven years
in Dunseith, Egeland and
Rock Lake where Myron
taught music, prior to at-
tending UND to earn his
Master’s Degree in
Psychology.
In 1963, the family
moved to Montana, where
Myron taught at Dawson
Community College in
Glendive for three years.
The family then moved to
Bloomington, Indiana,
where Myron completed
his Specialists Degree at
Indiana University.
The family settled in
Minot in 1968 where
Myron taught Psychology
and was a counselor at
Minot State
College/University for 23
years.
Joann passed away in
1989, and Myron retired
from teaching soon after
in 1990.
In addition to his teach-
ing positions, Myron
played guitar profession-
ally for music lovers from
a young age in a variety of
musical groups
throughout his life. He
shared the stage with his
sons and countless other
fellow musicians. He was
a lifetime member of the
Minot Musicians Associa-tion.
Myron was united in
marriage to Joyce Wieder-
hold in 1994 and they
were together traveling
and making their home in
Minot until her passing in
2013.
Myron was a longtime
member of the Congrega-
tional United Church of
Christ, Counseling for
College Professors, the
Minot American Legion,
Elks, Eagles and Moose
Lodge. He was an avid
motorcycle enthusiast and
rode many memorable
miles solo and together
with his brothers and
sons.
Myron’s loving family
includes: children, Joni
Dammen, Denver, CO;
Kevin (Christine) Dam-
men, Minneapolis, MN;
Mark Dammen, Carrolton,
VA; and Robert (Helene)
Dammen, Phoenix, AZ;
five grandchildren and
one step great-grandchild;
one great-granddaughter;
step children Muryl (Kris-
tine), Steven, Jon David
(Cheryl), Roger (Regina),
Linda (David), Mark
(Mary), Karen and
Kathryn (Ron); siblings,
Leland Dammen, Minot;
Edith Johnson, Hope, ND;
Kenneth (Janet) Dammen,
Minot; David (Linda)
Dammen, Minot; and
Carol (Darrell) Gilseth,
Minot, along with several
nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Funeral service: 1:00
p.m. Tuesday, January 28,
2020 at the Congregation-
al United Church of
Christ, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill
Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Monday,
January 27, 2020 from
3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
at the Thomas Family
