John Arthur “Jack”
Woodward, 71, passed
away on October 19, 2019
at a care facility in
Surprise, Arizona. Jack
was born in Minot, North
Dakota on August 10,
1948 to John and Marion
(Anderson) Woodward,
and graduated from Minot
High School in 1966.
Jack attended Minot
State College (now
University) until he ven-
tured out to see the coun-
try. He worked for a short
time in Chicago at O’Hare
International Airport,
then traveled west. While
in Wyoming he learned to
ski and ride horses, ulti-
mately graduating from
the University of Wyom-
ing at Laramie with a
Bachelor of Science De-
gree in Psychology. He
then worked and skied at
Arapahoe Basin in Colora-do. From there he moved
to Salt Lake City, Utah
and worked as a Bell Cap-
tain at the Lodge at
Snowbird. Jack enjoyed
skiing at Snowbird and
Alta as well as water ski-
ing on Lake Powell in
Utah.
Jack married Diane
Callis on June 15, 1985
and they lived in Sandy,
Utah.
After being a residential
real estate agent for a few
years, Jack chose commer-cial office leasing and
sales. Three decades of
real estate included Eager
& Co, Coldwell Banker,
where he was “Deal Mak-
er of the Year” five times,
Vice President at CBRi-
chard Ellis, Senior Vice
President at NAI West
Utah Commercial Real
Estate Services, World-
wide, where his team
player attitude, integrity,
trust, service and hard
work ethic were recog-
nized. He was Senior Of-
fice Building Specialist at
Newmark Grubb ACRES
and negotiated transac-
tions for a varying range
of clients from Class A of-
fice space users to those
in the high-tech industry.
Jack negotiated sales of of-
fice buildings including
Jordan Gateway Plaza, 257
Tower, HK Tower, Lake-
side Plaza and The Wood-
lands. Jack was voted the
“Commercial Salesman of
the Year” in 1989 by the
Salt Lake Board of Real-
tors and was a Lifetime
Member of the Board’s
“Million Dollar Club.”
Jack and Diane were
very active in equestrian
sports, competing in
Eventing &
Hunter/Jumpers. Jack
competed in the US
Eventing Association on
Kahlua, All the Best,
Mastermind and Sand-
stone, winning numerous
ribbons, including the
Sportsmanship Award in
the Utah Hunter Jumper
Association.
As avid travelers, Jack
and Diane visited Aus-
tralia, Austria, Czech
Republic, England,
France, Germany, Hawaii,
Hungary, Ireland, Italy
and Mexico, making many
friends along the way and
immersing themselves in
the culture of each loca-
tion.
Jack and Diane
remained in Sandy, Utah
until Jack’s diagnosis of
Parkinson’s related Lewy
Bodies Dementia. After
his diagnosis they moved
to Sun City, Arizona to be
closer to Diane’s family.
Jack was very person-
able and will be remem-
bered for his warm smile
and sense of humor. He
had a natural ease with
new acquaintances and
made a point of staying in
touch with his family. He
thoroughly enjoyed ski-
ing, his horses, dogs and
cats, music, dancing and
red wine.
Jack is preceded in
death by his parents, John
and Marion Woodward;
grandparents, John and
Helen (Babbitt) Wood-
ward and Arthur and
Bedah (Borgeson) Ander-
son; brother-in-law, Doug-
las Lockrem; and
father-in-law, Earl Callis.
Jack is survived by his
wife of 34 years, Diane, of
Sun City, Arizona; his
brother, James Wood-
ward, of Englewood,
Colorado; his sisters,
Mary Lockrem, of Minot,
North Dakota and Nancy
(Russell) Parizek, West
Fargo, North Dakota; his
mother-in-law, Marian
Murphy, Sun City, Arizo-
na; his father-in-law, Joe
Murphy, of Sun City, Ar-
izona; his brother-in-law,
Danny Callis, of Sun City,
Arizona; sister/brother-in-
law, Debbie and Mike Ri-
berdy, of Sun City, Ar-
izona; and numerous
nieces, nephews and
cousins.
A Celebration of Life
gathering will be held in
Minot, North Dakota in
June of 2020.
