Virginia Pollak, 84,
McClusky, ND, died Tues-
day, October 8, 2019, at
Sanford Hospital in
Bismarck, ND.
Funeral services will be
held on Thursday, Oc-
tober 17, 2019, at 1 p.m.
at Grace Lutheran Church,
McClusky, ND. Burial
will be in McClusky City
Cemetery at a later date.
Virginia was born on
December 21, 1934, on
the family farm in Lincoln
Valley, northeast of
McClusky, to Henry and
Martha (Hoffer) Stein. She
attended country school
and helped out on the
family farm. She moved
to Malta, MT, and began
working in restaurants at
the age of 17. Virginia
married Harold Pollak on
June 18, 1954, on the fam-
ily farm north of McClu-
sky. Harold’s career was
in the oil exploration
business and thus they
lived in numerous states
and in Minot. In 1964
they moved to McClusky,
where she owned and
operated Green Acres
Cafe until it closed in
1979. In 1991 she operat-ed a thrift store in the
cafe’s location for many
years. She was also
known as the “Pickle
Lady.” She sold canned
pickles and jellies to cus-
tomers from all over the
area. Harold died on Oc-
tober 5, 2009. She moved
to Bismarck earlier this
year.
Virginia was a member
of Grace Lutheran Church
and was active with the
women’s groups there.
Virginia is survived by
a daughter, Roxane Pol-
lak, and a son, Mark Pol-
lak, both of Beulah, ND;
grandson, Lance Pollak of
Dubuque, Iowa; three
great-granddaughters, Jay-
cie, Lexie and Brynlie;
brothers, Wesley Stein of
McClusky, Theobald
“Heine” Stein of Wilton
and Roger Stein of Na-
poleon, ND; one sister,
Patsy Homann of Minot.
She was preceded in
death by her parents; hus-
band; brother, Clarence
Stein; sisters, Darlene
Grosz, Shirley Dockter,
Diane Hintz, Loretta
Meckle and Marlene Mur-
ray.
In lieu of flowers,
memorials are preferred
to the McClusky City
Cemetery or the Bismarck
