Duane Bachmeier

Sept. 1, 1960-Oct. 13, 2019

Duane Bachmeier, 59,

Minot, passed away on

Sunday, October 13, 2019

in a Minot nursing home.

Duane Douglas

Bachmeier was born on

September 1, 1960, a son

of Mathias “Matt” and

Elaine (Neigel) Bachmeier

in Minot, ND. He was

raised and educated in

Minot, Karlsruhe, and Pla-

za. Duane attended the

North Dakota State Col-

lege of Science at Wahpe-

ton, where he studied

welding. He began his

working career at the age

of 13 at Nielsen dairy

farm and continued to as-

sist them throughout his

lifetime. He later worked

for the Minot Park Dis-

trict, where he took care

of flowerbeds.

Duane loved spending

time with his friends and

family at gatherings

around a bonfire having a

drink. He loved music

and always had a radio

close by playing rock; he

also enjoyed the weekly

Polka-party on Sunday

afternoons. He enjoyed

camping, fishing, swim-

ming and playing Santa

Claus for daycares,

church and his nieces and

nephews. He loved to

cook and those around

him were blessed to share

his generosity.

He cared for and raised

many dogs over the years.

His Dobermans, especially

Apollo, Zeus and Isis

were his favorites. While

strangers were rightfully

hesitant around them,

Duane made sure his dogs

were gentle and loving to-

wards his family. He

trained his mother’s bar

guard dogs to pull his

younger sisters on a sled

in the winter and his

Dobermans to pull his

nieces and nephews in

the wagon and on the

sled.

Duane enjoyed driving

and giving rides to family

and friends, neighbors, or

even a stranger carrying

groceries down the street.

He was a member of

the Harmony Center in

Minot and was often

found there and around

town playing bingo and

visiting. He was a member

of KC Council 9906 and

helped with many break-

fasts and dinners over the

years.
