Irene Hoff

Irene Hoff, 83, Minot,

passed away on Monday,

August 19, 2019 in a

Minot hospital.

Irene Viola Mason was

born on June 24, 1936, a

daughter of Niels and Ber-

tha (Weisz) Mason in Can-

do, ND. She was raised

and educated in Cando,

where she graduated in

1954. Irene furthered her

education by attending

the Minot State Teachers

College.

On September 6, 1955,

Irene was united in mar-

riage to Dwaine Hoff,

whom she had met on a

blind date. They made

their home on the Har-

rington Ranch near Bur-

lington until moving to

Gilby, ND in 1966. Irene

worked as a farm laborer

working in the beet and

wild oat fields, along with

the Gilby Cafe. She began

working at the Gilby Post

Office, prior to being

transferred to the Grand

Forks Air Force Base Post

Office in Grand Forks,

ND. In 1984, the family

moved to Minot, where

she worked at the Minot

Post Office until her re-

tirement in 1996.

Irene served as a Sun-

day School teacher for

many years. She also en-

joyed quilting, gardening,

fishing, going to the casi-

no, and spending time

with her family. Irene was

a loving wife, mother,

grandmother, sister and

friend who will be missed

by all that knew her.

She is survived by:

(Shannon) Hoff, Minot;

Twenty grandchildren:

seventeen

great-grandchildren: Sis-

ter: Sharron

Smeltzer-Darling, Leeds,

ND; Numerous nieces,

nephews and cousins also

survive.

Irene was preceded in

death by: her father,

Niels, mother and stepfa-

ther Bertha and Joe, broth-

er Larry, and two sisters,

Judy Severtson and Geral-

dine Lang.

Visitation: Sunday, Au-

gust 25, 2019 from 2 until

4 pm at Thompson-Larson

Funeral Home, Minot

day, August 26, 2019 at 10

am at St. Marks Lutheran

Church, Minot

Burial: Sunset Memori-al Gardens, Minot.
