Steven Boutilier
July 10, 1987 – July 1, 2019
Steve Boutilier, 31,
Minot, died on Monday,
July 1, 2019 in a Minot
hospital from injuries sus-
tained in a motorcycle ac-
cident.
Steven Will “Steve”
Boutilier was born on July
10, 1987 to Curt and Di-
ane (Will) Boutilier and
his big brother, Brad, in
Minot, ND. Steve loved to
be on-the-go! At the age of
14, he got a job at Ken-
tucky Fried Chicken and
later worked at Trinity
Nursing Home where
Steve enjoyed the
residents and would do
his magic tricks for them-
finding coins behind their
ears and levitating.
In high school, his
beloved sixth grade teach-
er, Patrice Mitchell, invit-
ed him to be the student
manager for the girl’s
hockey team, resulting in
him lettering in Girl’s
Hockey. Steve loved sci-
ence and his home be-
came his laboratory for
experiments. He grew
plants using hydroponics
(without soil) and he be-
came a collector of rocks.
Steve graduated from
Minot High School with
the Class of 2006.
Steve graduated from
Minot State University
with a degree in Geology.
Shortly after graduation,
Jim Potts, a former high
school science teacher
who Steve enjoyed and
who was working for the
State Oil and Gas Divi-
sion, told Steve about a
job opening. Steve was
hired and he often said it
was the perfect job for
him. Steve enjoyed his
co-workers, his adven-
tures of daily journeys
into the oil field to obtain
the required data with the
added bonus of seeing a
variety of wildlife. His
most recent accomplish-
ment was becoming a Cer-
tified Drone Pilot.
Steve was a people per-
son. He enjoyed bar-
becues with friends, play-
ing video games, attend-
ing church services at the
Pursuit and just hanging
out at his condo. Steve
created a movie room
downstairs and filled his
home with art work to re-
flect his interests. He was
very interested in photog
raphy and enjoyed taking
pictures of friends, family
and nature. This past
year, his brother, Brad,
and his dad got him in-
terested in ice fishing,
which he thoroughly en-
joyed in the comfort of a
heated shelter. They also
enjoyed riding jet skis to-
gether at the lake in the
summer. He would often
offer his mom a ride, but
she would decline when
she saw that twinkle in
his eye that indicated it
would be a ride she
wouldn’t forget! Steve en-
joyed having bagels at the
Bagel Stop with friends
and family, where he
would keep everyone en-
tertained with his funny
stories. He was in the pro-
cess of restoring the 1977
Corvette he purchased
and enjoyed giving rides
to anyone who wanted to
join him. Steve also loved
animals. When he decid-
ed to get a pet, he chose
CoCo, a small poodle ter-
rier mix and the runt of
the litter, who followed
him everywhere.
