Marvin Allen Ness

Nov. 16, 1940 – July 15, 2019

Marvin Allen Ness was

born to Carl and Lillian

(Bjelland) Ness on No-

vember 16th, 1940, at

Trinity Hospital, Minot,

ND. He was raised on the

family farm in Hilton

Township, Ward County,

where he learned to tend

to the land and work

hard. He was confirmed

at Zion Lutheran Church,

Minot in 1954 and gra-

duated from Minot High

School in 1958.

When Marvin was old

enough, he started work-

ing for Bober Construc-

tion, and then later

hauled fuel for Federated

Trucking which was then

bought out by Cenex.

Marvin completed 3 mil-

lion miles of driving and

was honored with this

award from Cenex.

Marvin met his future

wife, Judy Lund, in high

school and started dating

in the spring of 1958.

They were married in

1960 and together they

had two children, James

and Chad.

In 1970, Marvin bought

the family farm from his

father and moved his fam-

ily there. He continued to

drive truck and deliver for

Cenex, and work the land

alongside his family when

he would be home. Mar-

vin decided to buy a small

herd of cows and start

ranching as well as grain

farming. Marvin enjoyed

working the land and

everything the land had to

offer. Hunting and fish-

ing were a few of his pas-

sions along with attending

and showing his collec-

tion of guns at the local

gun shows. Marvin also

loved collecting all kinds

of things from old traps,

to knives and all the way

up to old tractors.

Marvin believed in the

values of family. He be-

came a grandpa in the

winter of 1999 and was

blessed with three

grandchildren.

Marvin enjoyed telling

stories from the past and

was instrumental in help-

ing people learn from his

past. He had a sense of

humor like no other.

Marvin was a member

of Saron Lutheran

Church, rural Minot, a life

member of the NRA and

the Dakota Territory Gun

Collectors Association.

Marvin was taken from

this world on July 15th,

2019 and left behind his

wife of 59 years, Judy, his

two sons, Jim (Tami Peter-

sen) and Chad (Deanna);

grandchildren, Miranda

and Dawson, sister Mar-

garet Heinemeyer, and

brother, Dennis Ness

(Judy).

Marvin was preceded

in death by his parents;

brother, Wayne and niece

Marlys Schumacher.

tion of Life Service start-

ing at 3 p.m., Saturday,
