JoAnn Emmel

JoAnn Emmel, 79, Sher-

wood, passed away

Thursday, June 13, 2019,

at the Good Samaritan So-

ciety in Mohall.

JoAnn Brannon was

born November 28, 1939,

the daughter of Joseph

and Lillian (Miller) Bran-

non, in Alexandria, Vir-

ginia. She was raised in

Alexandria and graduated

from George Washington

High School.

On November 8, 1958,

JoAnn was united in mar-

riage to Dennis Emmel in

Alexandria, VA. They

made their home on the

family farm near Sher-

wood, ND, where they

farmed and ranched.

She was a member of

the Homemaker’s Club,

Stafford Baptist Church

and attended Faith Baptist

Church in Kenmare.

As a young girl, she en-

joyed spending time with

her grandparents, Granny

and Pop at Virginia

Beach, VA. While she was

in high school, she

worked at Ben Franklin as

a clerk and later at the

Pentagon as a treasury

clerk. She enjoyed garden-ing, sewing, baking,

ceramics and her doll col-

lection. She loved spend-

ing time with her

grandchildren and at-

tending their activities.

She will forever be in the

hearts of those who loved

her. We will miss her and

her smile.

JoAnn is survived by:

children, Debbie (Al) Er-

ickson, Minot, Jeff

(Jeanne) Emmel, Millikan,

CO, and Michele (Mark)

Nelson, Kenmare, ND;

seven grandchildren,

Melissa Haag, Burnsville,

MN; Erika (Cole) Stephen-

son, Ally Emmel and

Dakota Bagbey, all of CO,

Ashley (Jason) Huber,

Westhope, ND, Clay Nel-

son, and Kylee Nelson,

both of Kenmare; four

great-grandchildren,

Alexa and Denlin Haag,

Burnsville, MN, and Eden

and Ember Huber,

Westhope, ND. Several

nieces, nephews and

cousins also survive.

JoAnn was preceded in

death by her husband,

Dennis (who passed away

January 21, 2014);

grandparents; parents;

grandson-in-law, Lee Hel-

mers; great-grandson,

Jaeger Huber; and two

brothers-in-law, John Gil-

seth and Leon Durbin.

Funeral: Thursday,

June 20, 2019,at 11:00

a.m. at Faith Bap-

tistChurch, Kenmare.

Interment: Rosehill

Cemetery, rural Norma,

ND.

Visitation: Thursday

one hour prior to the ser-

vice at the church.

Memorials: Remem-

brances may be made to

the Alzheimer’s Associa-

tion, Maple View Memory

Care in Minot, or to the

Good Samaritan Society

in Mohall, ND.
