Elaine L. Hetland, age

87, resident of Dahlen,

ND, formerly of Deering,

ND, died Wednesday,

May 15, 2019 at Altru

Hospital in Grand Forks.

Elaine LaVonne Brue

was born October 13,

1931 near Fertile, IA, the

daughter of Millerd and

Manda (Holstad) Brue.

She was raised on a farm

near Buffalo Center and

was confirmed at Linden

Lutheran Church on Oc-

tober 13, 1946.

She graduated from

Buffalo Center High

School in 1949, and from

Iowa Lutheran School of

Nursing in 1952. She

corresponded with a lone-

ly U.S. soldier serving in

Korea for 2 years and mar-

ried Herbert Osterholtz on

January 10, 1954 in Des

Moines, IA. They were

blessed with 2 children,

Mark and Dee Ann. Her-

bert passed away March

29, 1960.

Elaine married Arthur

Hetland of Deering, ND,

on June 10, 1962 at the

Little Brown Church in

the Vale, Nashua, IA.

They farmed near Deering

until Arthur’s passing on

January 1, 2001. She then

moved to Dahlen in

March of 2001 to live with

Dee Ann & Terry to care

for her grandchildren,

John and Marit, and also

to help with the Ellingson

farm and household until

her passing.

She enjoyed birdwatch-ing, gardening, and living

a life of strong faith. She

loved her family and was

a lifelong caregiver.

Family: Elaine will be

deeply missed by her 2

children, Mark (Karol)

Hetland of Prior Lake, MN

and Dee Ann (Terry) El-

lingson of Dahlen; 4

grandchildren, Matt (Ro-

byn) Hetland, Kari (Mike)

Tooke, John Ellingson,

and Marit Ellingson; 3

great-grandchildren, Nate

Hetland, Kaitlyn Hetland,

and Bradley Tooke; 2 sis-

ters, Mavis Johnson of

Forest City, IA and Joan

Sunde of Buffalo Center,

IA; 2 sisters-in-law, Judi

Brue of Forest City, IA

and Lola Gay Hetland of

Deering, ND;

brother-in-law, James

Clute of Minot, ND; and

many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in

death by: 2 husbands,

Herbert and Arthur;

brother, LaVerne Brue;

grandson, Bradley Het-

land; great-granddaughter,

Alexa Tooke; 2

brothers-in-law, Delbert

Johnson and Dean Sunde;

and sister-in-law, Glori-

ann Brue.

The Funeral Service

will be held at the Dahlen

Lutheran Church on Tues-

day, May 21, 2019 at

10:00 a.m. Interment will

be at St. Olaf Cemetery,

rural Deering, on Tuesday

at 3:30 p.m. Visitation

will be held at the church

on Tuesday, beginning at

9:00 a.m. until the time of

service.
