John W. Fougner

June 8, 1931 – March 15, 2019

John W. Fougner, 87, of

Williston, passed away at

Trinity Hospital in Minot

on Friday, March 15,


John’s visitation will be

held Thursday March 21,

2019 at the Everson

Coughlin Funeral Home

in Williston from 9:00 AM

until 1:00 PM with burial

to follow at 2:00 PM at the

Riverview Cemetery in

Williston. Rev. Ross

Reinhiller will officiate.

A Celebration of Life

for John will be held at a

later date.

John W. Fougner was

born on June 8, 1931 in

Williston, ND to Ingval

and Angeline (Braaten)

Fougner. He graduated

with honors from Willis-

ton High School. He was

athletic and lettered in

every sport. John attended

NDSU in Fargo on a

basketball scholarship in

1950-1951, where he par-

ticipated in the Air Force

R.O.T.C. Program. John

worked for the BNSF Rail-

way, Crighton Distribu-

tors, KMB Well Service, &

Jacobson Construction. He

ended his working career

at F.U. Oil Co for 22 years.

He retired in 1993 due to


John was married to

Margaret June Bearce for

27 years. They had five

beautiful children. He was

very active in the com-

munity. He enjoyed parti-

cipating in various groups

such as; the Jaycees,

Secretary of the Williston

Bowling Association,

Member of the Williston

Volunteer Fire Depart-

ment for 16 years, Secre-

tary and Administrator of

the Moose Lodge 239 for

25 years. He devoted over

50 years to what he con-

sidered to be the greatest

fraternity in the world,

the Loyal Order of the

Moose. He was very

proud of the work he ac-

complished at the Moose

Lodge. He continued to

help the children of the

community, along with

his own five children,

whom he loved very dear-

ly. He continued his work

at the lodge until his

health failed. John was ac-

tive in all sports through

the years and held various

state and city champion-

ships. John was also a

member of Faith United

Church and was Con-

firmed at Our Redeemer’s

Lutheran Church, and

volunteered for wheels on

He was preceded in

death by his parents, his

three brothers, Robert, Eu-

gene and Donald Fougner,
