Sylvia Loraine “Suva”

Melby entered into eternal

rest on Monday, De-

cember 24, 2018, four

days after her 89th birth-

day, at a Minot assisted

living facility.

Suva was born to

Joseph and Hazel (Ander-

son) Johnson on De-

cember 21, 1929 at Plaza,

North Dakota. She attend-ed school in Plaza, gra-

duating in 1946. While

hauling grain, she met

Warren Melby and they

were married on January

15, 1947. The couple lived

in Lewiston, ID, Plaza,

Minot, ND and California

before moving back to

Minot. Suva worked as

the assistant bookkeeper

at Minot State College be-

fore becoming the book-

keeper at her husband’s

portable welding busi-

ness.

Suva was very talented

musically, with the ability

to play saxophone and pi-

ano in addition to singing

with the Sweet Adelines

of Minot. Later on she

delighted the residents

and staff of Minot Health

and Rehab with her yodel-

ing. She loved dancing

and would seldom miss a

dance band with Warren

at the Moose Club, where

they were members. Suva

was full of fun, love, and

very energetic. She always

had homemade cookies,

sour cream chocolate

cake, and 7 minute frost-

ing ready for anyone who

stopped to visit. Suva was

greatly loved by her fami-

ly and friends and will be

deeply missed.

her children, Shirley Boy-

ko, Bismarck, Debbi (Dal-

las) Moore, Blaisdell, and

Kimberlee (Dave) Mars-

land, Minot; grandchil-

dren, Shawn Boyko, Chad

Boyko, Shona Seiler, Des-

trie McMillian, J.D.

Moore, Kutter Moore, and

Billi Moore;

great-grandchildren,

Amber Hendrickson, Za-

chary Boyko, Nicholas,

and Gavin Seiler, Brenna

Johnson, Erin Guritz, An-

drew Stanley, Brandi Ben-

dixon, and Colton Moore,

Kelcey Lee, Tibbs Moore,

Ryder Reum, Reno, and

Denver Carmona;

great-great-grandchidlren,

Addison Bugbee, Tucker

Lee, Nora Lee, Camden

Lee, Delaney Moore, Lu-

cas and Milly Guritz, Au-

dio Boyko, Reily Boyko,

Marina Bendixon, Sienna,

Dayton, and Ella McMil-

lan; and other extended

family.

She was preceded in

death by: her parents,

husband, brother Robert

Johnson, and

great-grandsons Garrett

Seiler and Tanner Carmo-

na.

A funeral service will

be held on Monday, De-

cember 31, 2018 at 2:00

p.m. at the Seventh-day

Adventist Church in

Minot. Burial will be at

Rosehill Memorial Park in

Minot. Visitation will be

held on Sunday, De-

cember 30, 2018 from

3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home in Minot.
