Olga Odland
Feb. 15, 1928 – Oct. 21, 2018
Olga Odland, 90, of
Velva, ND, went home to
be with her Lord and Sa-
vior on Sunday, October
21, 2018 in a Minot hospi-
tal, with her family by her
side.
Olga Helene Lovro was
born on February 15,
1928, at her parents’ farm
by Bonetrail, ND, near
Grenora. She was the
youngest of five children
born to Hans and Oline
Lovro. Since both of her
parents had emigrated
from Norway, she spoke
only Norwegian when she
started country school in
the first grade. When she
was nine, the family
moved to a farm north of
Granville. After graduat-
ing from Granville High
School in 1946, Olga
worked at Union National
Bank in Minot. She mar-
ried Ingvald Odland on
May 22, 1947, at Bethany
Lutheran Church in
Minot. They farmed north
of Velva and raised three
children. In 1998, they
moved off the farm to a
home closer to Velva. In
May 2016, Olga became
resident of the Souris Val-
ley Care Center.
Olga was a dedicated
farm wife, mother and
homemaker. She enjoyed
teaching Sunday School
and leading Bible studies,
and was active in church
activities. Music was an
important part of her life.
When she was young, she
loved to sing and taught
herself to play the pump
organ and the guitar. She
later passed on her love of
music to her children.
She loved her family, be-
ing involved in the lives
of her children and
grandchildren and was
very supportive of each.
She was dearly loved
and will be deeply missed
by those who survive her:
her husband of 71 years,
Ingvald; two daughters,
Nancy Odland, Bismarck
and Mary Lou (Bill)
Niewoehner, Willow City;
one son, John (Mary) Od-
land, Velva; six grandchil-dren, Laura (Jared)

many nieces and
nephews.
