Audrey Hanson-Mahoney
June 1, 1934-Oct. 9, 2018
Audrey Hanson – Maho-
ney, 84, Sawyer, ND,
formerly of Minot, ND,
passed away on Tuesday,
October 9, 2018 in a
Minot hospital.
Audrey Gale Hanson,
daughter of Harold and
Judith (Witt) Hanson, was
born on June 1, 1934, on
the Witt family farm near
Douglas, ND. She was
raised in Logan, ND and
attended Logan School,
Bell School and graduated
from Minot High School
in 1952. She continued
with her education for a
time at Minot State
School of Nursing.
From an early age, Au-
drey was a very hard
worker; helping on the
family farm as her mother
and father’s right hand.
She was a field hand, a
farm hand, helped her
mother with caring for
family members and daily
farm chores. She went to
work in Minot soon after
middle school to help the
family with expenses dur-
ing hard times and later to
help provide for the edu-
cation of her younger
brothers. Soon after gra-
duation, she moved to
Minot to be closer to
work. Through her work-
ing years she made many
close friends, but she
spoke most fondly of her
employment at Clarence
Parker Hotel, as telephone
operator at Northern
States Power, and recep-
tionist at Jim Ryan Chev-
rolet from where she re-
tired in 1998.
Audrey was united in
marriage to Gerald Maho-
ney in 1964. To this union
the couple had two chil-
dren. Susan and Michael
were the loves of her life.
She was a devoted mother
and gave everything of
herself to their care and
happiness. From this love
and influence her chil-
dren blessed her with 5
grandchildren. Audrey
continued her steadfast
family love and dedica-
tion to her grandchildren,
caring and nurturing them
from the time they were
infants through their mid-
dle school years.
Audrey was a lifelong
member of Augustana
Lutheran Church of Minot
until it was destroyed in
the flood of 2011.
Audrey’s children and
grandchildren were also
raised in the Lutheran
faith and were all bap-
tized at Augustana. She
was deeply saddened by
the loss of her family
church, her lifelong fami-
ly treasures and her per-
sonal belongings during
the 2011 flood.
In October of 2011, Au-
drey moved to Sawyer,
ND. From that time she
shared a home with
Susan’s family in Sawyer
and with Michael’s family
near Logan.
