Richard Lysne, 87, long-
time Velva resident died
on Thursday, September
27, 2018 at the Souris Val-
ley Care Center in Velva.
Richard Theodore
Lysne was born on June
29, 1931 in Rugby, ND to
Peter and Sylvia (Torger-
son) Lysne. He graduated
from Silva High School in
1948 and served in the
U.S. Navy from 1951 until
his honorable discharge in
1956. He graduated from
Minot State University in
1958.
Richard married Thel-
ma Grindberg on June 19,
1960 at Oak Valley Luth-
eran Church in Velva, ND
and they resided in Velva
their entire married life.
Richard was employed by
the People’s State Bank –
Velva, Seniors United –
Minot, Balfour and
Karlsruhe Schools and
was a substitute teacher at
many area schools. Also,
he drove school bus for
various schools and then
full-time for the Velva
School for several years.
He truly loved teaching
and his students meant so
much to him. Richard was
happiest when he was
surrounded by family and
friends.
Richard is survived by
his wife: Thelma; chil-
dren: Pace (Lynn) Pfen-
ning of Andover MN,
Scott (Leisa) of
Chanhassen MN, Brent
(Julie) of Williston and
Stuart (Danielle) of St.
Paul MN; grandchildren:
Adam Lysne, Kjersten
(Marcus) Refsland, Taylor
(Kim) Pfenning, Mallory
(Luke) Lendl, Brady
Lysne, Emily Lysne and
Jocelyn Lysne; five great
grandchildren: Ryder,
Adelyn, Libby, Braye and
Greta; three sisters: Au-
drey Needham, Marion
Nevland and Karen
Krebsbach; brother-
in-law: Lyle Lunde,
sister-in-law: Muriel (F.
Gerald) Mahoney and
numerous nieces,
nephews, great nieces,
great nephews and many,
many friends.
Richard was preceded
in death by his parents,
daughter: Lisa Ann, broth-
ers: Howard (Claribel) and
Orvin (Irene); sister Merle
Lunde, brothers-in-law:
Donald Needham, Paul
Krebsbach and Norman
Nevland; father- and
mother-in-law: Conrad
and Inez Grindberg and
in-laws: Alan (Jean)
Grindberg, Greta (Ernie)
Knutson
Celebration of the Life
of Richard Lysne: Friday,
October 5, 2018 at 1:00
p.m. in Oak Valley Luth-
eran Church – Velva.
Interment will be in the
Velva Community
Cemetery.
Visitation: Thursday,
October 4, 2018 from 5:00
p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the
Oak Valley Lutheran
Church.
Memorials are pre-
ferred to the Oak Valley
Lutheran Church, Souris
Valley Care Center or the
donor’s choice.
