Douglas Clifford Vassen
of Ambrose, ND, passed
away on Friday, July 27,
2018, at the age of 68.
Funeral services will be
11:00 A.M., Tuesday, July
31, 2018, at Concordia
Lutheran Church in Cros-
by with Pastor Emily
Shipman officiating. Bur-
ial with Military Honors
will follow at the Am-
brose Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3:00
PM to 7:00 PM on Mon-
day, July 30, 2018, at
Stakston-Martin Funeral
Home and one hour be-
fore the service at the
church.
Doug was born James
Robert Cogdill on August
13, 1949, to Robert
Pounds and Wioma Cog-
dill in Fargo, North Dako-
ta. Shortly after his birth,
he was adopted by Orville
and Ethel Vassen from
Ambrose, where he was
raised on the family farm.
He enlisted in the United
States Army in May 1967,
and was stationed in Viet-
nam as a lineman. His
service came to a conclu-
sion in December 1969,
when he traveled back
home to Ambrose to begin
farming. There he raised
cattle, pigs, and a variety
of crops for over 45 years.
Doug had many hobbies
and activities that kept
him busy, a few being reg-
ular visits to the Ambrose
grain elevator, traveling to
nearby towns for meals,
restoring a ’71 AMC Hor-
net, raising several cats
and always being a jokes-
ter.
Doug was preceded in
death by all of his parents
and a brother, Terry
Pounds.
He is survived by his
children, Lee (Erin)
Vassen, Ambrose, and
Amanda (Evan) Hinton,
West Fargo; grandchil-
dren, Alex Vassen, Sa-
mantha and Katelyn John-
son and Joseph Nelson;
brothers, Greg (Virginia),
Williston, Brad (Gwen),
Crosby, Kendal (Sheila),
Houston, TX, Tom (Deb-
bie), Williston, and sister,
Tammy (Bill) Fagerland,
Sedona, AZ. He is also
survived by biological si-
blings, Barb Clementich,
Bonnie Reynolds, Hank
Pounds, Betty Clemen-
tich, Jerry Pounds and
Connie Wermacker, all of
Minot. Doug also has
many nieces and neph-
ews, too numerous to be
named.
