Ruth Sandness, age 90
of Bottineau, died Thurs-
day at a Bottineau nursing
home. Her funeral will be
held: on Thursday (To-
day) at 11:00 am at the
Grace Lutheran Church in
Bottineau.
Ruth Elaine (Anderson)
Sandness, was born on
Christmas Day in 1927 in
LaMoure, ND. Her moth-
er, Ragnhild Esperum
came from Norway and
married Edwin Anderson.
Ruth attended country
school in LaMoure Coun-
ty and graduated from
Oak Grove Lutheran High
School in Fargo. She mar-
ried Richard Sandness on
October 25, 1947. They
farmed in LaMoure before
moving to Salem, Oregon
for a time. They moved to
Bottineau in 1955 where
Ruth resided the rest of
her life.
She became involved in
community service, was a
member of the First Luth-
eran Church and a
volunteer for many organ-
izations including the
American Cancer Society
and the Good Samaritan
Center. Ruth was an avid
gardener, a talented seam-
stress and a wonderful
baker. Music was of great
importance to her and she
filled her homes with
flowers and music, sing-
ing in many choirs and
choral groups. She devot-
ed herself to her family,
friends and Richard, her
loving husband of 62
years. Together they had 5
children, Mary, Chad,
Naomi, Ann and Winifred
Ruth passed away at the
Bottineau Good Samaritan
Center on January 25,
2018.
She is survived by: her
3 daughters, Mary (Gary)
Heald of Tallahassee, Fl,
Ann (Rodney) Schmidt of
Bottineau and Winifred
Sandness of Las Vegas;
grandsons, Kris (Nadia)
Heald, Matthew (Katie)
Heald, Jason (Aimee)
Schmidt, Luther (Denae)
Schmidt and Justin (Eric)
Liming; granddaughter,
Vanessa (Kellen) Sum-
mers; great grandchildren,
Tori, Jaeden, Peyton and
Kenley Schmidt and Ry-
land and Daisy Heald; sis-
ter, Millie (Gus) Stroh;
in-laws, Al and Junice
Sandness, Vernon Sand-
ness, Irene Lere, Edna
Oien and several nieces
and nephews.
In addition to her
parent, she was preceded
in death by: her husband,
Richard; daughter, Naomi;
son, Chad; grandson,
Richie Liming; brother,
Oscar (Thelma) Anderson;
sister, Bernice (Jerry) Tho-
mas; in-laws, Cliff and
Muriel Tompt; Claire and
Barb Sandness, Deloris
Sandness, Sig and Mar-
garet Sandness, Maurice
Oien, Raymond Lere and
Corrine (Lloyd) Carlson.
