Lena Eckman, 97, Harvey,
ND died Tuesday, August
15, 2017 at her daughter’s
home north of Hurdsfield,
ND where she had been
living for the past several
months.
Funeral mass will be at
10:00 a.m. Saturday, Au-
gust 19, 2017 at St. Cecilia
Catholic Church, Harvey,
ND. Visitation will be
Friday from 4 p.m. to 7
p.m. with Prayer Services
at 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral
Home, Harvey, ND. Buri-
al will be in the church
cemetery.
Lena, the oldest child of
Anton and Alice (Bertsch)
Goldade was born on Oc-
tober 15, 1919 on the fam-
ily farm north east of Har-
vey, ND. She attended
country school and
helped with the chores on
the farm as well as taking
care of her younger si-
blings.
Lena married Lawrence
Eckman on July 23, 1944
at Selz. They farmed
northwest of Hurdsfield
until retiring in 1993 and
then moved to Harvey.
Lawrence passed away
February 21, 1997. Lena
continued to live in Har-
vey on her own until fall
of 2016, when she went to
live with her daughter in
rural Hurdsfield.
Lena enjoyed making
quilts, embroidering, cro-
cheting and spending
time with her grandchil-
dren and great grandchil-
dren, as well as visiting
with her family and
friends. Lena was a
member of the St. Cecilia
Catholic Church, Harvey
and the VFW Auxiliary
both of Harvey.
Lena is survived by a son,
Dewain (Sandra) Eckman
of Ohio, daughter, Diane
Schimke of Hurdsfield,
grandchildren, Kristi
(Rich) Buckley of West
Fargo, Kelly (Melissa)
Schimke of Hurdsfield,
and Kerry (Sarah)
Schimke of Harvey and
Michael Monaghan of Vir-
ginia; great grandchil-
dren: Kayla Buckley,
Tyler, Tristin, Trace, and
Trynity Schimke; brother,
Joe Goldade of Harvey;
sisters; Helen Goldade of
Harvey, Jean Hoffert of
Fargo, Irene Marquart of
Harvey, Regina McNally
of Fargo, Angie Oster of
Carrington.
She preceded in death by
her parents, husband, six
brothers, Ferdinand,
Frank, Leonard, Sebas-
tian, Leo and Conrad, sis-
ter, Mary, son-in-law
