Roy Eman

Roy Eman, age 91, of Bottineau, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at a Bottineau nursing home.

Roy Eman, a son of Philip and Caroline (Hieb) Eman, was born June 4, 1923, in Starbuck Township. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Kramer and attended country school in the area. As a young man he worked for many neighbors, pitching Russian thistle, herding sheep and hauling bundles for different threshing rigs. He married Oveda Johnson June 15, 1943, at Bottineau. Roy worked with his father for a couple of years. They later moved to Kramer and Roy managed the O&M Elevator, drove the bulk truck for Standard Oil and Farmers Union and also hauled cattle for Kramer Shipping Association. Roy later managed the Shipping Association for many years. They were also in the milking business and sold milk to the Bottineau Co-Op Creamery. Roy started farming full time in 1951. He retired from farming in 1981 and moved into Bottineau. They spent the winter months in Arizona until 2005. Oveda passed away Oct. 31, 2010. In April 2011, Roy moved into the Bottineau Good Samaritan Center.

He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kramer and later Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bottineau. He was active with the Kramer Division of Aid Association for Lutherans, served on the Kramer School Board, the Kramer Equity Elevator Board, Turtle Mountain Soil Conservation Board, the County Farmers Union Board and the Farmers Union Oil Board. He was also a member of the Kramer Rural Fire Department and the Bottineau Sons of Norway.

He is survived by: daughters, Karan (Charles) Moseman, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Kathleen Baumann, of Little Falls, Minn., and Rhonda (Myron) Langehaug, of Bottineau; grandchildren, Michael (Kris) Moseman, of Longmeadow, Mass., David (Kathleen) Moseman, of Sandy Hook, Conn., Craig (Bobbi) Baumann, of Chanhassen, Minn., Melissa (Stuart) Coleman, of Bottineau, Keri (Joe) Hommerding, of St. Cloud, Minn., and Allison (Ryan) Getzlaff, of Bottineau; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Menzie, of Indiana; sisters-in-law, Ella Faulkner, of Yakima, Wash., and Pearl Eman, of Minot; brother-in-law, Lloyd Johnson, of Bottineau; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Kuebler, Edna Brandt and Anna Teske and two brothers, Emil Eman and Melvin Eman.

Funeral will be held: 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 15, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bottineau.

Burial will be: at Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.

In lieu of flowers: the family requests that memorials be given to the Bottineau Good Samaritan Center and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
