Hazel Germundson

Hazel Germundson, 89, of Tioga, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at Tioga Long Term Care in Tioga.

Hazel Harriet (Iverson) Germundson was born Nov. 12, 1925, on the family farm in Farmvale Township south of Tioga, to Henry and Hilma Iverson. She was the fourth of 11 children. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Tioga.

She attended the Iverson School during her elementary years and graduated from Tioga High School in 1947. She worked at Helga’s Cafe and in a cook car for threshing crews where she met Gerald. She and Gerald were married Dec. 22, 1949, and spent their life together farming, milking cows, raising chickens and pigs. They were members of Lindahl Lutheran Church and Norman Lutheran Church where Hazel was active in Ladies Aid, Sunday school and Bible studies. They lived on the family farm five miles south of McGregor where they raised their three children. They moved to Tioga in 1977.

Hazel enjoyed bowling, gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting and embroidery. She loved baking, and her buns and lefse were second to none! She was a charter member of Tioga’s Sons of Norway, belonged to the local Red Hat Club, was Grand Marshal of the Tioga Farm Festival Parade in 2003 and was chosen to receive Tioga’s Warm Heart Award. She was known for her big, strong hugs and doing for others. Hazel’s 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren were her pride and joy!

She is survived by: her son, Harlan (Vickie) Germundson, Tioga; daughters, LaVonne (Arvid) Carlson, of rural Minot, and Wanda (Jeff) Moberg, Tioga; grandchildren, Tracy (Mike Weeks) Carlson, Jamie (Pam) Germundson, Nathan (Lori) Germundson, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Moberg, Brekka (Joshua) Lengenfelder, Amanda (Logan) Melby, Alecia (Loren) Hoheisel, Kendra (Ben) Kirklewski, Lucas Carlson, Mallory (Josh) Woodard; great-grandchildren, Justin, Jonathan and Jake Gerald Germundson, Gunnar, Piper and Harlow Hazel Moberg, Jaxson, Charlie and Ella Hoheisel, Avery, Landry, and Kendall Melby and Toby Lengenfelder; sisters, June (Jerry) Planutis, Janet (LaVern) Broe, Myrtice Ecklund; brothers, Harold (Martha) Iverson and Lester Iverson.

Hazel was preceded in death by: her husband (1989); her parents; her sisters, Inez (Otto) Langager and Doris Sinness; her brothers, Alvin (Gladys), Rudolph and Kenneth Iverson; her sisters-in-law, Evangeline (Sivert) Rye and Frieda Iverson; her brothers-in-law, Orlando (Helen) Germundson, Darryl Bendewald, Tony Kirschbaum, Clark Ecklund, Eddie Varty; and granddaughter, Jessica Germundson.

Her funeral services will be: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, in Zion Lutheran Church in Tioga. Pastor Rodger Olson will officiate.

Burial will be: in the Lindahl Cemetery, north of Tioga.

Friends may call: from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, Friday, at Fulkerson Funeral Home, in Tioga, and one hour prior to the service Saturday in the church.
