Lowell Silseth

Lowell Clifford Silseth, 86, Bismarck, formerly of Minot, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, in St. Gabriel’s Nursing Home in Bismarck.

Lowell was born March 24, 1928, at Rutland, the son of Theodore and Anna (Hanson) Silseth. He was raised and educated near Rutland, in Sargent County, and graduated from Rutland High School in 1946. He enlisted with the Navy on March 20, 1946, and was transferred to the Naval Reserves on Dec. 22, 1947. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He was employed for a short time with Haggert’s Service Station and at Snap-On Tools in Fargo.

Lowell was united in marriage to Helen Kleppen on Nov. 12, 1950, at Columbus. They made their home in Moorhead, Minn., where he was employed with Bristol Distributing Company in Fargo until transferring to Minot in 1955. He continued with the company for several years until joining Metzger’s Electronics of Minot in 1968, where he worked in sales until retiring in 1991. After retiring, he worked as a bailiff in the Ward County District Court for 12 years and also drove limousine for Luxury Limousine service. Helen died Nov. 10, 2010. He moved to Bismarck after the flood of 2011.

Lowell was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church, Minot, Sons of Norway, Souris Valley Woodworkers, Swedish Society, SCORE, and a lifetime member of the Minot Coin Club and Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Minot Eagles Aerie, American Legion Post #26 and Dakota Woodturners. He was proud to have been the first male to have received the International Sons of Norway Masters Skill Cultural Award.

He enjoyed chip carving, wood figure carving, playing pinochle, reading, dancing, coin collecting and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

His loving family includes: daughters, Barbara (Ken) Kruse, Minot, Kyia Beth (Larry) Zubke, Bismarck, Steven Silseth and his special friend, Brenda Weber, Minot; grandchildren, Kristin (Brad) Korgel, Dr. Kari (Jason) Peterson, Kendall Kruse, Katrina (Jamie) Scherber, Jennifer (Brandon) Dockter and Melissa Zubke; great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Zachary Korgel, Lucas and Owen Peterson, Payton, Elise, Easton and Parker Scherber and Maddison and Ella Dockter; sister-in-law, Muriel Silseth; brother-in-law, Clayton (Sharon) Kleppen; several nieces and nephews.

Lowell was preceded in death by: his parents; wife of 60 years, Helen; brothers, Gordon, Eugene and twin, Lloyd Silseth.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in First Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: 2 to 6 p.m. today in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church, Minot, or an organization of the donor’s choice
