Verine Jorgenson

Verine Jorgenson, 96, from Ray, died Sunday, July 20, 2014, in a Stanley nursing home.

Verine Adrian Jorgenson was born Aug. 31, 1917, to Emil S. Ingberg and Sena Evenson Ingberg in Wildrose. She grew up in Wildrose, attended school in Wildrose and Ray, and graduated from Ray High School in 1936.

Verine married Kenneth M. Jorgenson, in Epping, on May 31, 1936. They lived in Ray until 1941 when they moved to Alexandria, Va. Kenneth was a master machinist at the U.S. Naval Torpedo Station during World War II. Kenneth and Verine returned to Ray in 1945 and established Jorgenson Machine. Verine was the business bookkeeper. Kenneth died Sept. 9, 1983.

Verine was a member of Ray Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school and was the financial secretary for many years. Her circle was instrumental in establishing Sunset Rest Cemetery Association and Verine was the treasurer for 30 years. Verine was also a Past Worthy Matron of Unity Chapter 117 of Order of Eastern Star, a member of Jolly 16 Homemakers, Ray Senior Citizens, Sons of Norway, American Legion Auxiliary and Ground Civil Air Patrol.

Verine had been a resident of Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley since February 2008.

Verine is survived by: two daughters: Betty J. Gustafson, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Georgeane J. (Michael) Devlin, of Lawrence, Kan.; one son, James L. (Lana) Jorgenson, of Stanley; grandchildren, Tom (Colleen) Gustafson, Tonya (J.R.) Miller, Brandon (Andria) Devlin, Ryan Devlin, Heather Jorgenson and Holly Jorgenson; great-grandchildren, Lynze (Jeff) Feller, Jordyn Gustafson, Reed Miller, Sean Devlin, Cole Miller, Conor Devlin, Karsten Peters; and two great-great-grandchildren, the Feller twins, who are expected to arrive in September; stepgrandchildren, Jaden (Kellie) Alvstad, Jennifer Alvstad and Jacqui (Dustin) Mauch; stepgreat-grandchildren, Lexi Grinolds, Cade, Cambri and CeeCee Mauch; sister, Mariellen Shilha of San Diego; aunt, Doris Helle of Seattle; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Verine was preceded in death by: her husband, Kenneth; her parents; one brother, Lloyd; and son-in-law, Donald Gustafson.

It was Mom’s wish to help medical science and she chose to donate her body to The Deeded Body Program at the UND School of Medicine, Grand Forks.

A memorial service is scheduled: Saturday Aug. 9, at 1 p.m., at the Ray Lutheran Church in Ray.
