Alda Nordby

Alda Nordby, 87, Minot, N.D., formerly of Powers Lake, N.D., died Monday, May 12, 2014, in a Minot hospital. Her funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Powers Lake. Burial will be at Cottonwood Cemetery, rural Powers Lake. Visitation will be today, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.

Alda was born Oct. 24, 1926, to George and Albertina (Kuhlman) Lee. She attended grade school in what was known as the Lee School in Sorkness Township and graduated from White Earth High School in 1945. She married Marvin Nordby on July 15, 1945, at the Nordby farm. They built their home not far from Marvin’s childhood home. Alda and Marvin were the proud parents of their daughters, Mary and Anna.

Alda belonged to the Cottonwood and Holy Cross Lutheran churches where she was active in the Ladies Aid, choir and as a Sunday school teacher. She belonged to the North Dakota Cowbelles, Homemakers, Senior Citizens, the Sons of Norway and Flickertail Village organizations. She enjoyed decorating wedding cakes, sewing, gardening, canning and traveling. Alda loved the time she was able to spend with family and friends.

Alda is survived by: her daughters, Mary Lee (Dick) McNally, Mukwonago, Wis., and Anna Lee (Don) Ahmann, Minnetonka Minn.; grandchildren, Sean (Kim), Jeremy (Mika), Jason, Margit and Michael; and great-grandchildren, Tai, Benjamin and Vance.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; siblings, Oakley, Arthur, Ardis and an infant sister.
