Marilee W. Honcharenko

Marilee Wanda (Moksness) Honcharenko, 71, of Meridian, Idaho, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, in a Meridian care center.

Marilee was born Feb. 27, 1942, in Astoria, Ore., to Bjarne and Elva (Hendricksen) Moksness. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Astoria, and graduated from Astoria High School in 1960.

Marilee married Arnold Honcharenko on Dec. 30, 1963, in Lakewood, Wash. They moved back to the family farm in Gasman Township, Ward County, near Max, in 1965. Arnold and Marilee were blessed with three children, Julie Ann, Allen LeRoy, and Jana Lee. They raised their children on their small grains and cattle farm. Marilee was very busy on the farm, and thoroughly enjoyed being at home with her children.

She moved to Boise, Idaho, in 2001 and later relocated to Meridian, Idaho. Arnold and Marilee were divorced in 2003.

In North Dakota, Marilee was a Sunday school teacher and choir member at Saron Lutheran Church, a volunteer at South Prairie School, an assessor for Gasman Township, and a member of Gasman Homemakers Club and Prairie Belles Homemakers Club.

Throughout the years Marilee worked various clerical jobs in Oregon, Washington, North Dakota and Idaho. The job she enjoyed most was secretary to a former Astoria city manager, Dale Curry.

Marilee enjoyed traveling home to Oregon as often as she could. On a special trip, she traveled with family members to Norway, where she met her uncle, aunts and cousins.

Marilee’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, listening to music, playing piano, walking and reading. She was also an excellent cook and baker. She loved her children, grandchildren and closest friends most of all, and greatly enjoyed spending time with them. Marilee’s family and friends will remember her kind heart, generous manner, quiet strength, gentle spirit, sense of humor and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

Her loving family includes: daughters, Julie (John) Huettl, of Minot, and Jana (Anthony) Mathews, of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren, Margaret and Andrew Huettl, of Minot, Matthew, Mark and Sara Nelson, of Bowbells, and Andrew and Jacob Mathews, of Boise; sister, Bette (Doug) Moksness-Koski, of Portland, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Jeane Moksness, of Longview, Wash., and Phyllis Moksness, of Canby, Ore.; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Marilee was preceded in death by her parents; son, Allen Honcharenko; and brothers, Roger Moksness and LeRoy Moksness.

Memorial service for Marilee: Will be held on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. PDT at the First Lutheran Church in Astoria, Ore.

Inurnment: Will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton, Ore.

Memorials: The family requests memorials to First Lutheran Church, Astoria, Ore., Saron Lutheran Church, Minot, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
