MPS keeps tax request stable
Property owners in the Minot Public School District could see a slight dip in their property taxes under a $131.14 million budget approved by the school board Tuesday, Oct. 7. The budget requests $36.23 million in property taxes.
The tax would decline from $613.57 this year to $611.84 next year per $100,000 of residential property. The tax would decline from $681.75 to $679.82 on $100,000 of commercial property, and from $6.82 to $6.80 per cropland acre. Changes in property valuations will influence individual property tax bills as well, and properties with valuation increases could have tax increases.
Business manager Laura Dokken said the district would capture the full 3% cap on property tax increases imposed by the 2025 Legislature. The budget also projects deficit spending of $612,497.
Dokken said the foundation aid report for 2026 will be available in December, and based on that information, there may be budget amendments proposed. She also noted there could be a request for more funds for facilities maintenance based on an ongoing analysis of work that needs to done.
