3- year sentence imposed for distribution

A Minot woman has been sentenced to three years with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation after pleading guilty to distribution of narcotics resulting in death or injury and endangerment of a child or vulnerable adult.

Daniela Abigail Perez Cordero, 21, Minot, entered a change of plea in North Central District Court on Tuesday, pleading guilty to one Class A felony count of distribution of controlled substance-resulting in injury or death. Perez Cordero also entered an Alford Plea to endangerment of a child or vulnerable adult, a Class B felony.

An Alford Plea is a guilty plea in which a defendant maintains innocence but admits the prosecutor possesses evidence which would likely result in a guilty verdict if brought to trial.

According to court documents, on June 30, 2024, Minot Police officers responded to a residence in northwest Minot for a report of a suspected narcotic overdose. The victim, a juvenile female, was located unconscious on the floor and administered narcan. The victim regained consciousness and was transported to a Minot hospital for detox and treatment.

A resident of the home informed officers Perez Cordero had left the residence prior to the officers arrival. The victim was interviewed and provided officers with the password for her cell phone. According to court documents, messages were located on the phone between Perez Cordero and the victim, coordinating the purchase of fentanyl. Additionally, a message sent from Perez Cordero to the victim after the overdose was located, which stated she had attempted to administer Narcan but called central dispatch after she was unable to resuscitate the victim. Perez Cordero said she fled the scene due to an active warrant.

District Judge Stacey Louser sentenced Perez Cordero to a concurrent 10 years with the DOCR on both counts, to first serve three years with credit for 205 days already served. Louser ordered Perez Cordero to complete three years of supervised probation upon release and to complete a chemical dependency evaluation. Louser recommended she be considered for placement at the Tompkins Rehabilitation and Corrections Center in Jamestown at a time deemed appropriate by corrections personnel.

Perez Cordero was further ordered to have no contact with the victim and maintain a 150 foot distance. She also was assessed $1,025 in court fines and fees.
