Community observes traditional Memorial Day

Submitted Photo Old Scouts and Dead Grass Society members, from left to right, Duane Bowen, Austin Gillette, Fred Fox and Jason Morsette, are shown in this photo taken at the White Shield Memorial Day Powwow on Tuesday. The community observes the day on the traditional Memorial Day May 30. On that day members of the Younghawk/Bear American Legion Post 253 of White Shield visit 12 cemeteries in the White Shield District to give 21-gun salutes to honor veterans. Clarence Carroll, commander-elect of the State American Legion, guest speaker at the White Shield program, noted the visit the Legion members make to the cemeteries and the salutes to veterans. The Post 253 Ladies Auxiliary prepared the meal.
