WHITE SHIELD – THE White Shield Cultural Center hosted fourth graders from Bob Callies Elementary School in Garrison on Tuesday.

Fourth-grade teacher Collette Gehring set up the fun-filled morning with a presentation from Alan Demaray, a spiritual leader and educator from the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation. He brought his flutes and the students used a buffalo pelt to bounce a ball together, learning a valuable lesson on communication. Working together they got the ball to bounce straight up.

They then round danced with champion drummers singing — Elk Looking Back Perkins, Dancing Eagle Perkins and John Malnourie.

After dancing, the kids were treated to soup and fried bread.

The morning ended with a quick swim in White Shields’ new pool, water slide and heated jacuzzi in the Ralph Wells Community Center.
