Two charged with burglary

Two Minot man have been charged with burglary after they were allegedly found squatting in an unoccupied house in southeast Minot on Friday.

Brandon Jay Michels, 43, is charged with Class B felony burglary, Class A misdemeanor making a false report to law enforcement, and Class B misdemeanor refusal to halt. Chester Oscar Hallof III, 35, is charged with Class B felony burglary.

According to court documents, police investigated after a caller reported that two people had been going inside the residence and taking property out through an east-side window. The executor of an estate told police that no one had permission to be in the house, which is scheduled to be demolished. Michels allegedly fled when police told him to stop and lied that no one else was in the house. Hallof was found hiding under a pile of garbage in one of the bedrooms and placed under arrest. Boxes from the residence were found in Hallof’s car, which was parked down the street.
