Leonard Tennyson, Minot, charged with child abuse

Leonard Glenn Tennyson, 46, Minot, is accused of physically assaulting a 12-year-old boy on Jan. 4 and has been charged with Class C felony child abuse in district court in Minot.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the boy told police he had not been moving fast enough for Tennyson. The boy said he had been sitting on the couch when Tennyson yelled at him and grabbed him by the upper shoulders. He claimed that Tennyson grabbed him around the neck and threw him into a laundry basket that was sitting on the couch. Tennyson denied that he had grabbed the child around his neck when he talked to police. Tennyson made an initial appearance in court on Wednesday before Judge Richard Hagar. He told the judge he thinks the incident has been blown out of proportion. Tennyson has no prior criminal record.

Judge Hagar ordered Tennyson to have no contact with the child and set bond at $5,000 cash or corporate surety or $1,000 cash. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Feb. 10.
