Crude oil released at site near Portal

PORTAL – An equipment failure/malfunction caused the release of 11,550 gallons of crude oil at a site near Portal on Tuesday.

The North Dakota Oil and Gas Division was notified of the release at the PTL4 Central Tank Battery location, about three miles southwest of Portal. Petro Harvester Operating Co., LLC reported the release on Wednesday. At the time of reporting 11,424 gallons of crude oil had been recovered with vacuum trucks.

The product was contained on-site and cleanup is underway. A state inspector has been to the location and will monitor cleanup required.
