Boy killed in accident near Watford City on Tuesday

WATFORD CITY — A male juvenile driver from Watford City was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash 6 ½ miles east of Watford City, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

According to the Patrol, the boy was driving a 2000 Toyota Avalon east in the left passing lane on Highway 23. The boy lost control of the vehicle on the icy roadway and crossed into the westbound lane in front of an oncoming Peterbilt semi-truck. The semi driver tried to move to the right shoulder but the Toyota Avalon and the semi collided at a right angle partially in the westbound lane and north shoulder. The boy was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The semi driver, a 58-year-old man from Watford City, was not injured. That portion of Highway 23 was partially closed following the accident at 8:28 a.m. Tuesday.

Neither of the drivers has been identified by the Patrol.

The accident is still under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
