James Shaw, Minot, sentenced to 18 months for breaking into car

Class B felony possession with intent to deliver heroin, Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia, and Class C felony possession of a Schedule II stimulant charges have all been dismissed against James Donald Shaw, 27, of Minot. He pleaded guilty on Sept. 23 to one count of Class C felony possession of methamphetamine, his second offense, and, in another case, pleaded guilty to breaking into a car on April 6. For the drug charge he was sentenced to five years in prison with a requirement that he serve 18 months, and three years of supervised probation. He was also ordered to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation and to pay $525 in court costs. He received a concurrent sentence for breaking into the car and was ordered to pay $525 in court costs and $329.99 in restitution. He will receive credit for the 78 days he already served in jail. In that case, the state agreed to dismiss a Class C felony possession of heroin and Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia charge against Shaw. His probation was revoked in a 2020 theft case and he received a concurrent sentence on that felony charge.

Tiffany Michelle Perez, his co-defendant in the drug case, is still facing charges of Class B felony possession with intent to deliver heroin, Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia, Class A misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine, and Class A misdemeanor possession of a Schedule II stimulant.
