Sentencing rescheduled to July 26 for Duell Clifton for murder of wife

Sentencing for the murder of his wife has been rescheduled to July 26 for Duell McCall Clifton, 25, Minot, because a psychological evaluation was only submitted to the prosecution and defense on Thursday and they need time to review it.

Clifton pleaded guilty in April to strangling his wife, Alytreus Clifton, 22, to death on June 8, 2020, at their Minot residence, then putting her in the car, covering her with a blanket, and driving to Faith, S.D., where he was arrested and the victim’s remains were recovered from his vehicle. Judge Gary Lee had ordered both a pre-sentence investigation and a psychological evaluation for Clifton prior to the sentencing.

Lee also directed the state’s attorney’s office to arrange for sign language interpreters for family members of the victim who want to address the court at the sentencing hearing, as is their right under state law.
