Minot State University Summer Theatre is presenting Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, directed by Joel Shura.

Willy Wonka features Jared Kolles as Willy Wonka and a number of children from the area as Wonka’s golden ticket winners and Oompa Loompas.

The show will run June 16-21 and June 23-26. Reservations can be made online at msusummertheatre.com or by calling 858-3228.

According to information provided by the theatre group, the show should appeal to all ages and is family friendly.

The summer theatre is back with renovations that have improved seating and a wine bar and aisle renovations that will make it easier for people in the audience to get to their seats. Last year, the summer theatre members also offered performances online during the coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s great to be back up on the stage,” says Summer Theatre’s Artistic Director Chad Gifford. “We are excited to see all the new renovations and to get back to doing what we love. We’re also excited to work with the community and the guest artists who have chosen to work for us this summer.”

One such artist is director Shura, who holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Montana and teaches at Idaho State University.

“Guest artists keep our cast and crew relevant and learning in ways that the industry across the country demands and Summer Theatre is lucky to have snapped Joel up for this season,” says Gifford.

“I was set to direct Something Rotten before COVID hit,” said Shura. “My favorite part of this process has been observing the immense love this community has for summer theatre. There is immeasurable support and I think that is really special.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed being in the midst of such creative people, how therapeutic it has been!! I think this show invokes honesty and how beautiful our own imagination can be,” said Kolles.
