Eleven podium finishes for Minot State track

Over the weekend, the Minot State University men’s track and field team finished eighth with 31 points, and the women’s track and field team finished 15th with 2.5 points at the NSIC Outdoor Championships in Duluth, Minnesota.

The Beavers earned 11 podium finishes and 17 NSIC medalists over the last two days at the NSIC Outdoor Championships at Malosky Stadium. The men’s team earned its best finish since 2015.

Joseph Green finished on the podium three times for the Beavers with a fourth-place effort in the 200 meters with a time of 21.74 to set a program D-II record and an unofficial Guam National Record. Green earned another podium spot with a seventh place finish and a personal record in the 400 (49.59). He qualified for the finals with a personal record (49.70) time and an eighth-place finish on the first day of action for the Beavers and surpassed his own personal record in the finals.

Green was also a part of the 4×400 relay team that finished fourth with a time of 3:19.60. Meanwhile, Minot State head coach Mark Del Monaco expressed his enthusiasm for Green’s performance. “Incredible day for Joseph. He stepped up in every way possible and I could not be more proud of him,” Del Monaco stated. “As a freshman, to be competing at a high level in the sprinting events in the NSIC speaks volumes not only about where he is as an athlete but where he is going. Not only is he a great student-athlete but he is also a fantastic young man. We are proud to have him as a member of our program.”

Leif Nelson also had an impressive day as he finished second in the javelin with a throw of 62.18 and Ben Aasen finished eighth in the same event with a throw of 45.4. Those performances added nine points to the Beavers team score early on the final day of action. Nelson earns All-Conference honors with the second-place finish.

Nathan Trujillo-Aragon finished eighth in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.52. The 4×100 relay as the team of Chase Doty, Kundai Mutungi, Nathan Trujillo-Aragon, and Chase Tandy finished eighth with a season-best time of 43.02. The men’s 4×400 relay ran a time of 3:19.60 to finish fourth and cap off a historic meet for the men’s program. The team of Lewis Cotterill, Juan Gutierrez, Joseph Green, and Chase Tandy posted a season-best time.

Logan Krueger set a program D-II record in the shot put with a throw of 14.52 on the first day of competition for MSU, finishing in 13th. Corbin Harris finished 14th in the same event with a personal-best 14.42. Krueger also finished seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.87 while Samuel Kreins finished 15th (44.54), Corbin Harris took 21st (42.54), and Hunter Clark placed 25th (40.96).

Jacob Jensen earned fifth in the 10k with a D-II program record 31:46.35 during the first day of competition. Tito Gonzalez finished 12th with a time of 34:25.12, Grayson Bonilla finished 14th (34:54.28), and Ryan Kohler finished 16th (35:04.16). Gavin Jorgensen finished 18th in the Steeplechase with a time of 10:11.64.

On the women’s side of the competition field, Amber Stevahn continued setting records as she bested her own D-II program record in the high jump clearing a mark of 1.62 to earn a sixth-place tie. Peyton Lammerding finished 28th in the hammer throw with a 40.82 marking, and Tori Nygard placed 29th with a 39.92 mark.

Breanna Johns-Oster set a program D-II era record and a personal best throw in the shot put (12.89m) to finish 13th. Samantha Brunelle placed 23rd with a throw of 11.36 and Chloe Gunderson finished 24th with a throw of 11.15 in the same event.
