Douglas Bell, Minot, sentenced to 60 days time served, 2 years probation, for kicking, spitting at police officer

Douglas Ray Bell, 42, Minot, was sentenced on April 6 to 360 days in jail, all suspended but the 60 days he has already spent in the Ward County Jail, and two years of supervised probation for kicking and spitting at a police officer who arrested him for refusing to leave someone’s residence on May 17, 2020. Bell physically resisted and refused to stand up from a couch when officers handcuffed him and carried him outside by the arms. They placed him on the grass so the officer could move his patrol car closer to Bell and, while Bell was on the ground, he kicked Officer Matthew Pappenfus. The officers got Bell on his feet and Bell swore at them and then turned his head and spat twice in Pappenfus’s face.

Judge Richard Hagar also placed Bell on two years of supervised probation and ordered to pay court costs for a Class C felony charge of possession of methamphetamine. Both sentences are concurrent with his sentence for driving while high on drugs and driving with a suspended driver’s license, both Class B misdemeanors, in March 2020.
