Community to celebrate curriculum requiring Native American history

BISMARCK-A coalition of parents, students, community organizers, activists, and local organizations will come together today to celebrate legislation requiring the inclusion of Native American history in the educational curriculum for North Dakota students in kindergarten through high school.

The celebration surrounding Senate Bill 2304 will be held from 5-7 p.m. in the Heritage Center’s Atrium in Bismarck. The public is welcome to attend. Masks are encouraged.

An ad hoc advisory committee for SB 2304 has been formed to provide an avenue of support and input, to implement existing tools and to identify gaps in resources for school systems as the law rolls out Aug. 1. The committee meets today at 4 p.m. in the Heritage Center’s James River Cafe.

“We believe that education is key, and the more we know about others, the less fearful we will be” said Rep. Ruth Buffalo, D-Fargo, the bill’s author.
