Ward County 4-H competes in West River Judging Contests
Seventeen 4-H members from Ward County traveled to Beulah for the West River Judging Contests on Feb. 20 to participate in the Crops Judging and Hippology. The contests are split into two age groups, Junior (eight to 13 years old) and Senior (14 to 18 years old).
Crops Judging consists of pan classes, seed identification, equipment identification, and market grading. Ward County Junior 4-H Crops Judging Contest results:
• Abby Finke, Berthold, placed fourth with a score of 603
• Daylon Yanish, Carpio, tied for seventh place with Jeran Hughes from Ransom County, 477
• The team of Abby Finke, George Engelhard, Carpio, Lily Schepp, Berthold, and Yanish placed second
• The team of Anna Finke, Tucker Schepp, both Berthold, and Teigan Bloms, Burlington, placed fourth
Hippology is divided into four phases: horse judging, written exam, stations, and team problem. Points are combined by the top three scores in each category. Ward County 4-H Hippology Contest results:
• Mikaela Woodruff, Garrison, won the Senior Hippology, with a score of 170
• Olivia Lebrun, Berthold, second place Senior Hippology, 149
• Anne Schauer, Carpio, tied third place Senior Hippology with Jillian Hughes from Ransom County, 126
• Emily Fannik, Max, fifth place Senior Hippology, 116
• The team of Sadie Lemer, Berthold, Bailey Bloms, Burlington, and Hailey Schauer, Carpio won Junior Hippology with a score of 252
• Also competing in Junior Hippology were Sophia Lebrun, Nadia Lemer, both Berthold, and Brynlee Bloms, Carpio
