Information event set for mask mandate bill

Supporters of a bill prohibiting mask mandates will hold a public information event April 1 in the Great Plains Theater in the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck.

Food will be served at 6:30 p.m., with a presentation at 7 p.m.

House Bill 1323 prohibits any state or local official from mandating a face mask, shield or other face covering. Masks could not be required for employment, education or receiving services. If officials recommend masks, it must be stated the recommendation is not mandatory.

The bill was introduced by Rep. Jeff Hoverson, R-Minot. Co-sponsors are Rep. Jeffery Magrum, R-Hazelton, and Sen. Oley Larsen, R-Minot.

HB 1323 passed the House 50-44. The Senate Political Subdivisions Committee will hear the bill April 1 at 8:30 a.m.
