Council approves new zoning ordinances

Updated zoning ordinances, designed to create a more user-friendly experience for residents and developers, passed on first reading at a Minot City Council meeting Monday.

The Land Development Ordinance is an overhaul of development standards and sections on signs, parking, wireless facilities, procedures and definitions.

“What impresses me about this document is that it really makes Minot a business-friendly community,” council member Tom Ross said. “It gives us one or two steps ahead when it comes to competing with other communities in attracting business.”

Rolly Ackerman, vice chairman of the steering committee that developed the draft ordinances, agreed. He said the new ordinances promote efficiency, saving money for developers and for the city.

The ordinances would become effective if approved on second reading at a council meeting next month.
