General Shumpert III, 44, Las Vegas, Nev., was found not guilty by a jury in district court in Minot on Wednesday of Class C felony aggravated assault and Class A misdemeanor violation of an order prohibiting contact.

Shumpert had been accused of hitting another man in the head and elbow with a hammer during a dispute in Minot and of violating a no contact order on Dec. 22, 2019. According to court documents, the alleged victim claimed that a woman in the residence had handed Shumpert the hammer and Shumpert began hitting him. The alleged victim claimed he didn’t know why this might have occurred. The woman was never charged with anything in connection with the case.
