William Matejovic, Burlington, charged with terrorizing, domestic violence

William Scott Matejovic, 52, Burlington, is charged with physically assaulting a woman and setting fire to curtains in a residence on Dec. 3 that the woman had to put out with her hands. According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Matejovic then began loading guns and the woman fled the residence on foot.

Matejovic followed her in a vehicle and pointed a rifle at her before he drove away and left her alone. He also allegedly put the gun in his mouth before he drove away. The woman reported the incident to authorities. A Ward County deputy located the vehicle but Matejovic got out of the vehicle and ran away. He was eventually located and placed under arrest.

Matejovic is charged with Class C felony terrorizing, Class A misdemeanor domestic violence causing bodily injury, and Class B misdemeanor refusal to halt.

He made an initial appearance on the charges on Tuesday before Judge Gary Lee. Under an agreement worked out between the defense and the prosecution, Matejovic was released on $10,000 bond, with a requirement that he post 10 percent of that. He is required to check in with the sheriff’s office once per week. Under the bond conditions, he will visit his doctor to determine if his medication needs to be adjusted and will obtain a psychological evaluation unless his doctor says one is not necessary. All firearms have been removed from his residence. The alleged victim did not want a no contact order. Lee also ordered him to undergo testing via the drug patch as a condition of bond.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Feb. 18.
