Two injured in two-vehicle crash near Surrey

SURREY – Two area women were injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 2, one mile east of Surrey, on Wednesday.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol said those injured were Linda Heinrick, 71, Towner, driver of a 2008 GMC Yukon, and Cheryl Dewaalmalefyt, 69, Surrey, driver of a 2018 Ford Escape.

According to the patrol, both vehicles were going east on Highway 2 near the junction of 139th Street NE. The Escape slowed to make a left turn onto 139th Street NE and was rear ended by the Yukon. The Yukon’s front bumper struck the rear end of the Escape. The Escape was pushed into the median where it came to rest. The Yukon rolled onto its passenger side, slid down the highway and came back to rest on its wheels in the road. Both drivers suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries during the crash and were taken by ambulance to Trinity Hospital in Minot. Heinrick was cited for care required.

Heinrick was wearing a seat belt. Dewaalmalefyt was not wearing a seat belt. The accident happened at 3:54 p.m.
