Christmas star in Minot sky

Kim Fundingsland/MDN A rare celestial phenomenon has been visible in the sky to the southwest in recent days. What is referred to as the “Christmas Star” or “Star of Bethlehem” hasn’t been seen for nearly 800 years. In reality, it’s not a star at all but a rare alignment of Jupiter and Saturn lit by the setting sun. Hundreds of vehicles were on the outskirts of the city Monday night, watching the skies as the “Christmas Star” made an appearance through a break in cloud cover. This photograph was taken about 5:45 p.m. However, the “Christmas Star” will remain visible this entire week.
