Todd Solberg, Minot, charged with strangling woman

Todd William Solberg, 38, Minot, is accused of punching a woman in the head and strangling her two or three times for up to eight seconds each time during a domestic altercation on Monday evening.

Solberg is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony domestic violence causing serious bodily injury, Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia, and Class A misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine.

Solberg made an initial appearance in court on Tuesday via interactive television from the Ward County Jail before Judge Richard Hagar. Solberg claimed the incident was an altercation that got out of hand and he hadn’t wanted it to get out of hand. A prosecutor for the state had asked for $20,000 cash or corporate surety bond but Solberg asked the judge for a lower bond and said, though he is on probation for another offense, he has been doing well. Hagar said he would go with the state’s recommendation of $20,000 cash or corporate surety bond and Solberg stood up, told the judge “F— you!” and demanded that a guard let him out of the room immediately. He left as the judge was still reading his bond conditions. Hagar remarked that Solberg’s reaction was not going to help his situation and continued reading the bond conditions, which included an order prohibting Solberg from having contact with the woman.
