John Burditt Jr., Minot, charged with biting, strangling woman

John Heath Burditt Jr., 33, is accused of biting a woman, dragging her around by her hair and strangling her multiple times during an argument on April 2.

He is charged with Class C felony domestic violence causing serious bodily injury in district court in Minot.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, police were called to an address in southeast Minot about three people fighting inside a silver Dodge pickup truck. Burditt’s girlfriend, who had been sitting in the back, told police that she had observed Burditt strangle the other woman, who is a family member or household member of Burditt’s. The alleged victim had dried blood on her left shoulder and left arm and her finger was bleeding and had a puncture mark the size of a tooth. She told police that Burditt had bit her. She also had marks on her neck consistent with being strangled and had marks near her hairline consistent with having her hair pulled.

The alleged victim said she had been arguing with Burditt because she had invited her ex-boyfriend over to the residence and Burditt doesn’t like her ex-boyfriend. Burditt began to attack the alleged victim’s ex-boyfriend and the alleged victim ran upstairs to get Burditt’s girlfriend, who had been caring for Burditt’s child. Burditt then ran up the stairs and at one point pushed the alleged victim down the stairs. The woman tried to walk back up the stairs and Burditt put his hands around her throat and shoved her into a wall. The woman said she could not breathe while Burditt was strangling her. The woman got away from Burditt and went to tell her ex-boyfriend to leave. Her ex-boyfriend then waited outside. Burditt was still angry and followed her and grabbed her by the neck again and held her off the ground when she tried to walk into another room. The woman tried to push and scratch Burditt to make him let her go. Burditt’s girlfriend then came and pulled Burditt off the alleged victim in the dining room. The woman planned to leave for the night and had gone out to the pickup. She was trying to close the pickup door when Burditt bit her on the left ring finger. He then pulled her out of the pickup by her hair and began dragging her around. Burditt then went back into the residence after the incident.

Burditt was arrested at the residence a short time later after police obtained a search warrant.
