Fargo legislator files for state treasurer

FARGO – State Rep. Thomas Beadle, R-Fargo, has filed his paperwork in the state treasurer’s race with the Secretary of State’s office for the June 9 primary.

In a release, he stated he submitted nearly 700 signatures. State law requires candidates to submit at least 300 signatures from North Dakota voters in order to appear on the statewide ballot.

“I know that my business experience, legislative record and our commitment to protecting your tax dollars is the right combination to best serve North Dakotans in the treasurer’s office,” Beadle said. “The outpouring of volunteers and supporters, even with the hurdles of social distancing, gives me the confidence that we have what it takes to win in June and again in November.”

Beadle is running to succeed incumbent Treasurer Kelly Schmidt, who announced in December that she would not seek re-election.

Due to the coronavirus-related cancellation of the North Dakota Republican Convention, the party is selecting its statewide candidates for the general election through the primary process.
